\nThe why: Shifting developers depending on porosity is key. With a stronger developer, you get less deposit and more lift. With a lower number, you get maximum deposit and less lift. So when Jill\u2019s creating red on previously highlighted (porous hair), she wants a stronger developer to control the amount of pigment that\u2019s deposited, preventing strands from becoming too intense and dark. On virgin hair \u2013 which doesn\u2019t absorb too much color — she can segue to a developer with maximum deposit.
