At just 15, this tenacious teen relocated to the United States with her sisters, and her mother, who was going through a self-described \u201crough divorce.\u201d Hair became the savior. But in the chair\u2026not behind it. \u201cWe would get our hair done, and it made me realize how important it was to feel beautiful and empowered,\u201d recalls Mai, who had dreams of becoming a hairstylist since childhood. Eleven years later, she and her now-husband moved to SoCal, where Mai enrolled at the Vidal Sassoon Academy. \u201cWith no time to play or a Plan B to fall back on, I hustled day in and day out, always giving 110%,\u201d declares Mai, who believes that going the extra mile is what makes her shine. That and hard work. In just a single year, she \u201cinvested and took about 28 independent classes, diving head-first into a world of knowledge and growth that I never imagined.\u201d Starting as an assistant (during which time she honed her craft and soaked it all in), Mai began embarking upon her newest passion \u2013 education. It\u2019s a foundation she has continued to build upon with gusto. Committed to addressing the variety of hair textures and types in the Latina community, Emma showcased the importance of empowerment in business and in beauty; explaining the impact of the Hispanic community on creating iconic trends.<\/p>\n
